Institutional background

The United Roman-Ruthenian Church and Pontifical State

The United Roman-Ruthenian Church is an autocephalous Apostolic Church—the Eastern Roman Church with Latin heritage. Its Orthodox and Catholic inheritance brings together the Christian traditions of East and West within a distinct ecclesiastical jurisdiction.

The Church’s Apostolic succession comes through the ancient patriarchates of Rome, Constantinople, Antioch, and Jerusalem and their historic extensions into Rus’ and the Americas. Its present united institutional form was established in 2023 through the union of the former Anglican Patriarchate of Rome and the Gallo-Russo-Byzantine Catholicate.

The Pontifical Imperial State of Rome-Ruthenia is the Church’s non-territorial ethno-religious state and the temporal expression of its Roman and Ruthenian patrimony. The Church and State have held special consultative status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council since 2019.

His Apostolic Highness the Most Holy Pope Radislav I of Rome-Ruthenia is Prince-Bishop and Catholicos of Rome-Ruthenia, Supreme Pontiff of the United Roman-Ruthenian Church, and Chief of the Roman-Ruthenian Church and State.

The office and title of Roman-Ruthenian Pope were formally conferred in 2014 upon the Prince-Bishop of Rome-Ruthenia, together with full papal authority within his own jurisdiction. The office reached its full public manifestation in 2025. Pope Radislav’s ministry combines ecclesial leadership with international diplomacy, scholarship, behavioral science, authorship, and advocacy for human dignity.

The Apostolic Household

The Pontifical and Imperial House of Johnson-Roma-Rus’, also known as the Apostolic Household, is the ecclesiastical dynastic house of the United Roman-Ruthenian Church and the Pontifical Imperial State of Rome-Ruthenia. It preserves inherited responsibilities associated with the Houses of Rurikovich, Romanovich, and Ivrea.

The Household is headed by Pope Radislav I and includes his consort, Her Apostolic Highness Apostolic Princess Anna Alexandrovna. Its work is expressed through worship, scholarship, cultural stewardship, charitable service, hospitality, and the continuity of historic institutions.

The Apostolic Household is related to, but distinct from both the Pontifical Court and the Roman-Ruthenian Curia: the Household is the ecclesiastical dynastic house surrounding the person and office of the Roman-Ruthenian Pope; the Court comprises the wider body of officers and ceremonial structures serving the Holy Apostolic See; and the Curia comprises the organs and officials through which the government and administration of the Church are conducted.
